How much Honey per Hiive?

Hello everyone,

out of curiosity, do you already habe some experience on how much honey you made on a Hiive per year?

Dear Pug,
On the HIIVE website it says that the honey room has a volume of 7.5 and I would assume that you can make 5 to 8 kg of honey per year with the HIIVE . Unfortunately I can’t say how many kilos of honey I have made with the HIIVE as I started with my HIIVE this year. But it depends a lot on the year, e.g. where the hive is located, the current weather around the hive, the origin of the colony or the health of the colony. The HIIVE also has an advantage in terms of honey production, as it can produce honey faster than a normal hive such as the magazine hive. The reason for this is that the HIIVE mimics the natural wooden hollow in a tree and is much better insulated than the magazine hives. As a result, the bees consume less energy (in the form of honey) as HIIVE indirectly helps the bees to keep their microclimate stable in the hive as in a tree hive. However, care should be taken not to harvest too much honey from the bees as this can damage the beehive organism in HIIVE. The explanation for this is that honey bees are stressed because the first instinct of honey bees is to have security of supply through honey in the hive. If there is not enough food security (in the form of honey), the honey bees neglect their hygienic behavior, such as social grooming among the bees, because they are busy restoring food security through honey. This can lead to the varroa population in the hive increasing to dangerous levels because the bees are not cleaning themselves of varroa mites. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
