This is my 1st year using Hiive. Building and installation went smoothly. Introduction of bees was chef’s kiss
I’ve been beekeeping for several years using standard Langstroth and one of those hives is very strong and healthy and already showing signs of swarming. I’m preparing to split it tomorrow in anticipation of it happening very soon so I don’t lose any bees.
This made me wonder about how to handle swarming in my Hiive. What do I look for other than heavy activity? My guess is that they would build swarm cells at the bottom of the comb similar to Langstroth. How do I handle swarming?
It’s not like I can easily and/or safely remove comb with those cells along with some bees to create a new hive in anticipation of a swarm. I really don’t want it to get to point where I’m forced to react as it is swarming or risk missing it entirely.
